Scaffold

Installation

A proposal submitted to Haifa Museum of Art

2012

100 sqm of metal scaffold

scaffold intends to envelope the façade of the Haifa Museum of Art with scaffolding during the six months of the exhibition.

A scaffold is an efficacious, light engineering, which serves construction needs. The scaffold structure does not represent aesthetic need, on the contrary – it represent an aesthetic interruption during the construction process. Moreover, the scaffold does not contain any importance or pretensions in the aspect of appearance, yet it creates it’s own

aesthetics.

art.espionage’s “scaffold” installation is aiming to be a parasite structure from the outside in, taking over all of the Museum’s transitional spaces: from the lobby to the stairs, and from there to the hallways, forming a kind of additional architectural tissue dictating behavior.

Entering the Museum through and underneath the scaffold creates a viewing experience of the artistic object through a filter of under construction, stimulating precise, cautious, testing behavior. The visitor will discover and expose the objects, not just view them. The scaffold proposal uses an architectural, engineering tool to make a statement in the interval between object and viewer. Furthermore, the scaffold represents the museum as a platform and structure in which art is examined as well as re-presented.
